NEW JERSEY’S SPECIAL REVIEW ASSESSMENT (SRA): AN EXAMINATION OF THE POST SECONDARY OUTCOMES: OF NEWARK HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATES 2003-2008

This study examines the effects differential assessments have on the post secondary outcomes of students graduating high school in Newark, New Jersey. Analyzing quantitative data, this study examines the post secondary outcomes of those students graduating via the state mandated high stakes HSPA (High School Proficiency Assessment) examination and the alternative SRA (Special Review Assessment) examination. Among other important findings, the data indicate that though a majority of students tracked for this study graduate via the SRA as compared to the HSPA, a substantial percentage of SRA graduates matriculate in post secondary institutions.
